Iconic album released in 1982, Mind Warp is one of the most interesting Cowley’s disco records

Released posthumously, copyright 1982, this album was bittersweetly referred to among those working on it as « The death record« , as Cowley’s health was drastically deteriorating during recording. He died very shortly after finishing the last track, Going Home, which has obvious death-suggesting themes. Disco shining prince Patrick Cowley (1950-1982), 1), America’s equivalent to Giorgio Moroder, is also known for his collaborations with Sylvester (1946-1988) for the song You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), where his synthesizer skills marked a turning point in dance music. His productions sound positively alien and futuristic even today…

Few words about the record

Patrick Cowley’s Mind Warp is an iconic album released in 1982, representative of the era of electronic disco music and Hi-NRG, a style of which Cowley was a pioneer. This album is marked by its avant-garde synthetic rhythms, pulsing bass, and innovative electronic textures that influenced the dance and electronic music scene. It is one of his final projects, as Cowley died shortly after its release, leaving a significant musical legacy. The album features tracks like « Tech-No-Logical World », which mixes futuristic elements and epic sounds, and « They Came at Night », which highlights his talent for creating cinematic and experimental atmospheres. His music remains a bridge between the disco of the 1970s and the house and techno that emerged in the following decades.
