The EP revisits the Cape Verdean diva’s timeless classic by anchoring it in a resolutely modern aesthetic

Awesome piece of remixes ! Carefully selected, remixers each offer a unique reinterpretation, paying homage to the soul of the original piece while adding their sonic signatures. And yes, you may have read about Carl Craig many times on this blog. His mixes are sometimes huge, like this one, crisp handclaps, minimal beats, haunting africans chants…

Few Words About The Record

This EP offers interesting remixes that preserves the warm melancholy of Cesária’s vocal interpretation. Ideal for after-hour sets, it maintains a clear respect for the initial arrangement while infusing new energy. Another highlight of this EP is an Afro-house remix that taps into the song’s African roots, amping up the percussion and adding organic elements such as bells and syncopated rhythms.

This treatment highlights the nomadic and universal spirit of Cape Verdean music. The Angola (Remixes) EP is a moving celebration of Cesária Évora’s legacy, succeeding in introducing this masterpiece to a new generation of music lovers. If it is not free of flaws, it remains a respectful and vibrant rereading, both faithful and innovative. Obviously a must for fans of world music and well-made electronic remixes.
